Corporate idec began in 1990 as Big Country Buildings by partners Peter Gartshore and Ross Leggatt. Peter came from a background in accounting while Ross gained local and international experience in structural engineering. Peter and Ross are still vitally involved
with the company but the management has shifted to a board of directors. Glenn Gibson is Chief Executive Officer and is an engineer by profession. He comes with local and international experience. “Consolidating and maintaining growth, continuous staff training and staff integration are high on my agenda as we see the company forge ahead as idec,” commented Glenn.
The fundamental ethos of achieving as a team underpins the daily life at idec. Since it takes the effective working of every section to see a project through to a timely completion, an emphasis on working as a team is essential to the idec way. Staff at idec totals more than 100 and includes engineers, draftspersons, project managers, sales consultants, structural steel and architectural metalwork fabricators, blasters and spray painters, administration personnel, riggers and a construction team.
idec operates out of an office in Murarrie, Brisbane in sight of the Gateway Bridge. The fabrication factory is in Meadowbrook in the Logan Shire just south of Brisbane City and the protective coating workshop is at Hemmant, also near the Gateway Bridge.
