TBM Acoustic Building

idec has been engaged by Transcity to design, fabricate and erect this structure to enable the sections of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and other associated materials to be lowered into the start of the tunnel (Western Portal, Toowong, Queensland). After the tunnel is completed the building will be removed.

Building Specifications

• Structural steel in excess of 900 tonnes.
• 30m high.
• Four overhead cranes with a total lifting capacity of 420 tonnes.
• Clad in acoustic material.

The steelwork is not painted due to the temporary nature of the building and this has provided a significant cost saving.

Due to our engineering design capacity and the tight time frames idec was selected to engineer and construct this unique building. Our efficient design and utilisation of tapered steel members produced the cost effective structure.
